Donald Herndon,43,  of Brookfield, Mo., died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at University of Missouri Hospital. Mr. Herndon was cremated per his request. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Donald was born June 27, 1966 in Lexington ,KY. The son of Charles and Frances Herndon.

He was married to Pam Herndon, and she survives of Chillicothe, Mo.

Other survivors include2 stepsons Corey Craft and Zachary Craft, one  daughter Paisley Herndon and one step daughter Tiffany Craft, his mother Frances Billings and two brothers Carl Billings and Charles Billings.

Juanita Charlesetta Lawhorn

scan0001Juanita Lawhorn, 78, of Columbia, surrendered her soul to Almighty God on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at her home. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 11:30 am at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.

Juanita Lawhorn was born September 5, 1931 in Micola, Mo., the daughter of John and Helen Price Boswell. She was a member of the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher for the adult women, A devoted food pantry worker, a member of the Lord’s Kitchen, a member of the WMU, and a Co-Chairperson of the Pastor’s Anniversary Committee.

She leaves to cherish her memory seven sons James Edward Williams, Jeffery Lynn Lawhorn, Courtney Lee Lawhorn, and Eric Shane Lawhorn all of Columbia, Robert Charles Lawhorn of Kansas City, Mo., Kenneth Earl Lawhorn of Ingelwood, CA., and Cornell Wayne Lawhorn of Omaha, NE,  four daughters Linda Jeane Williams of Omaha, NE., Joyce Marie Lawhorn of Carson, CA., Sandra Denise Lawhorn of Columbia, and Tara Collene Lawhorn-Jackson of Lenexa, Ks., four brothers Howard D. Boswell of Hayti, Mo., Frederick “Frank” Williams of Milwaukee, Wi., Sidney Boswell of Fresno, CA., and Reginald Boswell of Poplar Bluff, Mo., three sisters Clara Coleman of Columbia, Alice Murray of Omaha, NE., and Mildred Andrews of Burmingham, AL., 27 grandhildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband,  parents, one son, one daughter, two brothers and three sisters.

Michael Smith

Michael Smith, 30, of Sedalia, surrendered his soul to Jesus on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Bothwell Regional Health Center. Homegoing celebration will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday , April 3, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Sedalia. Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-2pm Saturday at the church.

Michael was born December 31, 1979 in Minneapolis, MN., the son of Michael Buford and Cheri Smith. He loved weightlifting.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Cheris Smith of Sedalia, and his father Michael Buford of Columbia, one son Jordan Lawson of Sedalia, One daughter Kaidynce Smith of Sedalia,  five brothers Damon Buckner , Terrell Smith, Marcus Buford, Matthew Buford and Michael Baker, four sisters Donease Smith, of Cordova, TN., Tanaeia Smith of Sedalia, Mo.,  Genevieve Buford of Columbia, and Raedawn Buford of Columbia.

John Hopkins

John A. Hopkins, 74, of Otterville, died Sunday, March 21, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday at Riverside Christian Church in Boonville. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 12-1 Saturday at the church.

 John Hopkins was born March 22, 1935 in Otterville the son of Hurley and Beulah Frazier Hopkins. He was employed by Pan Handle Eastern Pipeline. He was a member of the Mt. Moriah A.M.E. Church.

 Survivors include his wife Ida Belle Hopkins of Otterville, one son Charles Hopkins of Columbia, two daughters Laverne Johnson of Boonville, and Tamera Brown of St. Louis, Mo., one brother Calvin Hopkins of Sedalia,one step-niece Barbra Horrell of Columbia, Mo. and 6 grandchildren.

Mary Lee Paige

Mary Lee “M.P.” Paige, 68, was born January 14, 1942 in Fayette, MO to Laura Thelma Powell and Orville McKee.  Her mother, father, sister, and maternal and paternal grandparents preceded her in death.   Mary Lee Paige, a resident of Muskogee, OK, departed this life on Thursday, March 18, 2010.   At an early age, she was baptized at St. Paul Methodist Church in Fayette, MO.  She was affiliated with many churches and last attended Peters Chapel A.M.E. Church, Muskogee, OK and First Baptist/Summit Church, Summit, OK.  She attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Fayette High School.  After graduating she resided in Fayette, MO until moving to Columbia, MO to begin her employment endeavors.  Because of her husband’s career she was introduced to travel, moving from state to state.  In Columbia, MO, she was employed at 3M Company for 6 years.  She then moved on to Kansas City, MO where she was employed at Lake City Ammunition Plant for several years.  In 1969, the Lord blessed them and she gave birth to Nevin who was called her “miracle baby”.  Her next move was to Richmond, VA where she was employed for a local photography studio.  Next stop, on to Leavenworth, KS for 3 years enjoying cooking, shopping, and meeting new friends.  Traveling on to Hyattsville, MD for her longest stop of 20 years, she was employed at Comcast Cable in Sales.  Her final travel and stop was in Muskogee, OK, where she and husband both retired and enjoyed good southern food, shopping, travel, and making more new and lasting friends.  Mary was a very sophisticated lady that you could always find shopping for that perfect outfit that matched from head to toe.  She had a personality that was gregarious and she never met a stranger.  Through her suffering and sickness, she never complained and never asked for much.   She leaves cherishing memories to her longtime soul mate, friend and devoted husband, Charles D. Paige of the home; a dear son, Nevin Charles Paige, Baltimore, MD; siblings, a devoted sister, Helen M. Patty Looney Baker was born November 27,1957 in Nowata, Ok., the daughter of Frank and Mary Washington Looney.

Survivors include one son Mohammed Semi Baker of Kansas City, Mo., two daughters Toni Tenelle Baker and Dianna Reed, both of Kansas City, Mo., one sister Marsha Garner of Sacramento, CA., and two brothers Edward Williams of Kansas City, Mo., and Billy D. Williams of West Des Moines, IA.

Claude Jackson

Claude Jackson, 88, died Thursday, March 11,2010 at Four Seasons Retirement Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday,  March 17, 2010 at Alexander-May Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-11AM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Claude Jackson was born October 7, 1921 in Sedalia, the son of Emmett Jackson and Otelia Fields.

Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Rosemary James, Emmett Jackson III, Herbert Jones, Carol Brown, Wyatt Jackson Jr., Michael A. Jackson, ALecia Luchin, Bonita Nash, William Jackson, Donald Jackson and Martin Jackson.

Freddie Nevels

scan0002Freddie Nevels Sr., 67, of Columbia, died Sunday at Boone Hospital Center. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday at Mt. Celestial Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Warren officiating. Burial will be in the Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the church.

Freddie Nevels was born July 6, 1942 in Charleston, Mo. the son of Stanford and Colleta Woody Nevels. He was employed by the city of Columbia for many years. He attended Mt. Celestial Baptist Church.

 He leaves to cherish his memory three sons Freddie Nevels Jr., George Gardner and Josh Allen all of Columbia, two daughters Videtta  “Peggy”  Alvis of Chicago, Il., and Yvette Nevels of Columbia, two brothers Clifford Nevels and Earl Nevels both of Columbia, two sisters Leora Glasgow and Anna Allen of Columbia, and 13 grandchildren, as well as a long time friend and fishing buddy Thomas “Butch” Simmons.

Edgar E. Bradford Jr., 45, of Columbia, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Butler officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.

Edgar E. Bradford was born April 26, 1964 in Columbia, the son of Edgar E. Bradford Sr. and Delores Curren Bradford. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a charter member of the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. He was an organ donor.

He leaves to cherish his memory his parents Delores Bradford and Edgar E. Bradford Sr., both of Columbia, one son Robert Mundy of Columbia, four daughters Shayla Turner, Ericka Turner and Sheena Turner  all of Columbia, and Kiara Bradford of Akron, Ohio, one brother Dwayne Windsor of Columbia, and two sisters Teresa Curtis of Columbia and Sylvia Bradford-Jackson of St. Louis, Mo, a host of other brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Lloyd E. Hemingway

Lloyd E. Hemingway, 63, of Marshall, formerly of Boonville died Tuesday at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Friday at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Boonville. Burial will be at a later date.

Lloyd Hemingway was born December 25, 1946 in Boonville the son of Charles Smith and Lois Ellis Overton.

Survivors include three brothers Glenn Hemingway of Kansas City, Mo., Richard Overton (Jackie) of Topeka, Ks., and Maurice Overton of Columbia, three sisters Deborah Thomas (James) of Atlanta, Ga., Sheila Hemingway of Columbia, Mo., and Edith Samuels (Darrel) of Boonville, a special aunt Esther Perry of Boonville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother Gertrude Smith, and three siblings Charles Hemingway, Norman Overton and Rosita Overton.
