Cora Edna Connor, 80, of Rocheport, Mo. surrendered her soul to Christ onWednesday, May 26, 2010 at Parkside Manor. Homegoing celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11:00 am at Russell Chapel C.M.E. Church, burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.
Cora Connor was born November 4, 1929 in Rocheport, Mo. She was a member of the Mt. Woodland A.M.E. Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son Larry Connor of New Franklin, Mo., seven daughters Linda Gillon of Tampa, Fl., Lorraine(Carl) Smith of Decatur, Il., Lorretta Connor, Lois Connor, Laverne (Robert) Fisher and Laura (Melvin) Hayes, all of Columbia, and Lillian (Bruce) Cobbs of Decatur, Il., 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Provine Curtis, 79, of Columbia, died Friday, May 14, 2010 in Memphis, Tn. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, May 31, 2010 at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. David Ballenger officiating.
Mr. Curtis was born October 14, 1930 in Oakland, Mississippi, to John and Sarah Curtis. He married Fannie Mae Fowler on Feb. 6, 1947 in Marion , Ar. and she preceded him in death.
Mr. Curtis came to Columbia in 1947 to work at the University of Missouri where he retired as a custodian after 30 years. He was a member of Russell Chapel Church. He loved to sing and was a proud member of the Velvetones for many years. He continued to sing proudly unti shortly before his death.
Mr. Curtis leaves to mourn nine children Shirley Hardiman and Debbie Webber both of Memphis, Tn., Jerry( Jeanette) Curtis of Austin, Tx., Patricia (Larry) Brown, Perry Curtis, Clara Curtis Ganaway,, Michael (Theresa) Curtis and Anthony Curtis all of Columbia and Jennetta Curtis of Austin, Tx., 22 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friendw, a very special friend Marie Burchett of Memphis, Tn., and family friend Margaret Norris. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Latasha A. Mays, 37, of Marshall, answered the call of the Lord on Thursday, May 6, 2010 . Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Marshall with Elder Charles Stephenson officiating. Visitation will be from 11-12 Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Stemple Cemetery in Norborn, Mo.
Latasha was born June 24, 1972 in Carrollton, Mo., the daughter of Zona Holly and Melvin Mays. She was a member of Powerhouse Ministries.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Natalia Mays, Chasity Mays and Zion Williams all of Marshall, Mo., her parents Zona Henderson of Marshall, and Melvin Mays of Jacksonville, Fl., her step-father Clarence Henderson of Marshall, one grandson Elijah Ta’Quan Dodson , and a nephew Erik Mays.

Mary Elizabeth Cheatum, 86, of Fulton, surrendered her soul to Christ on Wednesday, May, 5, 2010 at Fulton Nursing and Rehab Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Fulton, Mo.
Mary Elizabeth Cheatum, was born June 8, 1923 in Fulton, Mo., the daughter of Arnold Ray and Lucy Cason. She and Willene McBride were both raised by their Aunt Elva Burton. She was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Usherboard and a member of the Ladies Choir.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son Reuben Cheatum of Tulsa, Ok., one granddaughter Ciara Cheatum, and a niece Debbie Sanderson of Fulton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter Mary Cheatum
Verdell Edward Mitchell

Verdell Edward Mitchell, 69, of Columbia, answered the call of the Lord on Friday, April 30, 2010 and surrendered his soul at Columbia Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 7, 2010 at Simpson Chapel A.M.E. Church with burial in Mitchell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.
Verdell Edward Mitchell was born October 12, 1940 in Callaway County. He was nurtured and loved by his parents Estill and Georgia Mitchell. Verdell received his formal education in Callaway County.
A lifetime resident of the central Missouri area, Verdell had many miscellaneous employments.
Verdell was a member of the Simpson Chapel A.M.E. Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory four brothers Estil, Virgil, Roy and Clifford, four sisters Ruth, Hazel, Opal and Geneva, two sister-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Verdell was reunited in heaven with his parents, Estil and Georgia Mitchell, two brothers, Sterling and Donald Mitchell and one sister Helen J. Edwards.
