Ella Gertrude Bell

Ella Gertrude Bell, 90, of Sedalia, entered into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, August 7, 2010 at True Vine Church of God in Christ. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11-1 pm Saturday at the church.

Ella was born April 17, 1920 in Bunceton, MO., the daughter of John “Jack” Smith and Ella Louis Buris. On November 1, 1939 she married Robert L. Bell Sr. who preceded her in death in April 1957. She graduated from Hubbard High School in Sedalia where she lived all her life. She enjoyed working for Jean’s Market, the neighborhood grocery in her earlier years and worked for Fairview Nursing Home for 17 years, retiring 15 years ago. She was a kind and gentle woman, loved by all. She was a devoted Mother to her five children and enjoyed the grand and great grandchildren very much. She joined Christ at an early age and was a committed member of the True Vine COGIC in Sedalia, Mo. for many years where she worked in the Sunday School, was in charge of the Bible Band and sang with the choir. She loved her church and went on many trips with the Pastor W.T. Morris and wife and a dear friend Rosa Gravitt, to other churches for services and meetings.

She leaves to cherish her memory three sons Robert Bell Jr.(Marlene) of Winters, CA, Don E. Bell (Barbara) of Bossier City, LA., and Larry Bell of Boonville, Mo., one daughter Cassandra ” Sandie” Johnson( Ronald) of Sedalia, Mo., 29 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, one sister Harriet Helm of Kansas City, Mo., and a brother Charles Smith(Ruby) of Fresno, Ca., a sister-in-law Carrie Wallace of Houston, Tx., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, one son Walter “W.D.” Bell, four brothers Bill, Harold, Ruben and Andrew, and five sisters Pearl, Clara, Elenore, Margaret, and Baby Doris Jean.

John Wayne Cross Sr.

John Wayne Cross Sr. 55, formerly of Columbia went to eternal rest on Saturday, July 17, 2010. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Simpson Chapel A.M.E. Church.

John Wayne Cross was born April 8, 1957 in Columbia, Mo., the son of Eddie Griffin Cross Sr., and Helen Stapleton.  He was a member of Simpson Chapel A.M.E. Church and the Army Reserves.

He leaves to cherish his memory three sons John Wayne Cross Jr, of California, Zackary William Cross of Bentonville, Ar., and Zachary Wayne Cross of Springfield, Mo., two brothers Louis B. Cross and William Ralph Cross both of Columbia, six sisters Clarissa Jones of Denver, CO., Irma Brown Heafling of Bentonville, AR., Lena Mae Norfleet, Maggie Marie McDonald, Sue Wanda Cross and Velora Walkowicz all of Columbia.

Ronald D. Ross, 64, of Boonville, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010 at his home. There will be no funeral services held.

Ronald D. Ross was born July 29, 1945  in Boonville, the son of George and Nora Rodgers Ross.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Jill Ross of the home, two sons Chad Ross of Wichita, KS., and Sam Ross of Boonville, and four grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Ray Mueller

Ray Mueller of Marshfield, Mo.,  passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital. There will be no funeral services. Mr.  Mueller was cremated at his request.

Ray A. Mueller was born March 10, 1937 in Washington. DC., the son of Frank  and Irma Jenkins Mueller. He was a master electrician.

Survivors include a sister Toni Miller of Carrollton, Mo.

Mary Elizabeth Hatton Wisley

Mary Elizabeth Hatton Wisley, 83, of Columbia, answered the call of her heavenly father on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Rest Haven Retirement Center on Sedalia. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.

Mary Wisley was born May 8, 1927 in Columbia the daughter of Tom and Sarah Lee Hatton. She was a member of the Log Providence Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Jerry Bass Sr. of Missouri, and James Bass Sr. of Ft. Wayne, IN., a special son Phil Williams of Columbia,  four brothers Tommy Hatton, Archie Hatton and Roger Hatton all of Columbia, and Robert Hatton of Texas, two sisters Hazel Sheard and Dorothy Hatton both of Columbia, and several generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tommy Wisley,  and her brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Friday at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

George Norman was born April 15, 1929 in Dumas, AR., the son of Robert and Mary Frances Berry Norman. He was a member of the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters Lisa A. Turner and Lori A. Tatum, both of Columbia, Mo., seven sons Peter A. Norman, George W. Norman Jr., Edward W. Norman and Jason O. Norman all of Columbia, Mo., Wendell E. Norman of Tulsa, OK., Robert B. Norman of Milwaukee, WI., and Octavius D. Norman of St. Charles, Mo., two brothers Rainy Huggins of Star City, AR., and Samuel Peterson of Pine Bluff, AR., five sisters Golina Henderson, Treasure Reed, Mamie Singleton, Nancy Daly and Linda K. Brown,  46, grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

Palmer “Bus” Montgomery, 88, of Boonville surrendered his soul on  Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Riverdell Care Center. Funeral services will be held  Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 11:00 am at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Boonville. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Saturday at the funeral home.

He was a member of the Morgan St. Baptist Church.

Survivors include a step-son Eugene Hinkle of Chicago, Il.

ErvinAllen Keith Ervin, 53, of Brunswick, Mo surrendered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Lakeview Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Boonville, Mo. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 9, 2010 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Brunswick.
Allen Keith Ervin was born June 17, 1957 in Triplett, Mo., the son of Charles Leon Ervin and Vivian O. Johnson Ervin. Allen Keith Ervin was a care provider for the Mid-Missouri Mental Health Center. He joined the Zion A.M.E. Church in Brunswick, Mo at an early age.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Ervin.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother and stepfather, Vivian and Jesse Powell of the home; three sisters, Twila Ervin of Brunswick, Mo, Marcia Ervin of Kansas City, Mo., and Michelle Thames (Kelly) of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers , Howard Ervin of Washington, DC., and Darrell Ervin of Marshall, Mo; an aunt Lillian Harris, of Marshall, Mo; an uncle Louis Ervin, of Moberly, Mo; nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
All memorial contributions will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Christine Spence, 91, of Fayette, surredered her soul to God’s angels who were dispatched on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Golden Living Retirement Center in Glasgow. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, July 10, 2010 at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Fayette. Visitation will be from 12-1 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Christine Spence was born April 26, 1919 in Louisiana the daughter of Manuel Rachell and Mary Dennis. She was a member of the Holy Ground Church of God in Christ.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Jewell Mosley of Valley Park, Mo.

Elmer Jackson

 Elmo “Elmer” Jackson of Boonville surrendered his soul to Jesus Christ on  Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Boonville with Rev. Dale Hopkins officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm at the funeral home.

Elmer was born June 30, 1954 in Boonville. For the majority of his life he was self-employed. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother Aline Jackson of Boonville, his long time companion Julia Pikett of Boonville, to this relationship four children were born Jamie Jackson, Ashley Jackson, Yolando “Rocky” Pinkett, and Quentin Pinkett,  he also leaves his eldest child Marina Taylor, five grandchildren, two brothers Kenneth Jackson Sr., and Anthony Jackson, three sisters Doreen Jackson, Rhonda Jackson, and Patricia(Michael) Burns, several nieces, nephews, and numerous close friends. Elmer found serenity through Christ. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
