Hazel Jones

Hazel Jones, 97, of Columbia slept into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, Ocotber 27, 2010 at The Bluffs. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Clyde Ruffin officiating, burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM Saturday at the church.
Hazel Elizabeth Hughes Jones was born October 23, 1913 to Jackson Jackman Hughes and Hortense Harriet Warren in Boone County, Missouri. She had five siblings two brothers Jackson and William who died at birth, and three sisters Frances, Hortense and Jane.
Hazel graduated from the Homer G. Phillips Hospital of Nursing in St. Louis, Mo., and later moved to New York City where she worked for the New York City Department of Health in 1942. While working in New York City she met Edward Jones and they married on December 6, 1947 and had two sons Theodore Hughes and Kevin Edward.
No matter where Hazel was, she was involved in church work, teaching, and witnessing for the Lord. After her retirement Hazel returned to Columbia to care for her mother and returned to the church of her youth, Second Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Frances Dupree and Hortense Parrish. She is survived by her two sons Theodore and Kevin, granddaughters Kelly Jones-Weir and Kristen Jones, and a great-grandson David Delgado, forst nephews John Broadus and Michael Dupree as well as an extended family of nephews and nieces and their families.

Emma Brame, 79, of Sedalia, answered the call of the Lord on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Bothwell Regional Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 29, 2010 at Burns Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Friday at the church.
Emma Marie Brame was born February 22, 1931 in Slater, Mo., the daughter of Elmer VanBuren Sr. and Arlelia Wright VanBuren. She was a member of the Burns Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where she was a member of the Red, White and Blue Club, and the Mission Department. She was also a member of the Gertrude Madison #105 OES and the Lauretta Court # 15 Order of Cyrenes. She married Melvin Brame in 1968 and he preceded her in death. She worked for many years in Kansas City, Mo. as a CNA and she returned to Sedalia in 1988.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Donald VanBuren(Nancy) of Sedalia, two brothers Elmer VanBuren(Katherine) Jr. and Billy Joe VanBuren(Docmar) of Marietta, GA., one sister Betty VanBuren of Kansas City, KS., five grandchilren Dilana Franklin, Renee Franklin, Ronald VanBuren, Adrian Young, Tyness Vanburen, three step grandchildren Veronica Sims, Kardell Sims, and Marshall Sims, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister Charlene Broadway.

Jacquetta Greer, 29, of Columbia surrendered her soul to Christ on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at University of Missouri Hospital. Visitation and funeral services will be private.
Engelbert Ssekasozi

Engelbert Ssekasozi, 73, of Columbia, passed into eternal life on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, October 30, 2010 at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Knoxville, TN. Visitation will be from 11-1PM Saturday at the funeral home.
Engelbert Ssekasozi was born November 7, 1936 in Kampala, Uganda in East Africa the son of Francix Xavier Matovu and Anna Maria Nabitaka. He attended Wright’s Temple in Columbia. He was an Alumni of the University of Kansas where he received a PHd in adult education and he was an alumni of the University of Missouri where he received a PHd in Philosophy, he also received a Master’s degree from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. He received a Law Degree from the University of LaSalle in Chicago and studied for ten years to become a Catholic Priest in Uganda. He retired after 30 years from the Lincoln University as an Emeritus Professor of Philosophy. At Knoxville college he won an award for being the best professor.
On September 7, 1963 he was married to Phyllis E. Hale and she survives of the home.

Leon and William M. Hale both of Knoxville, TN. special friends Elder and Mother Morris of Knob Noster, Mo., Phineas and LaGreta Gitta of Kansas City, KS., Joseph and Specioza Matovu of Kansas City, Mo., Joe and Vicky Kazito of Atlanta, GA., Dr, Frank Wright of Kansas City, Mo., Elder and Sister Stapleton of Columbia, MO., Elder and Mother Barksdale of Columbia, Mo., Vicky Anannamena and Sylester Ayuntu of Columbia, Mo., Masomie Amad of Jefferson CIty, MO. Margaret C. Banty, 81, of Marshall surrendered her soul to Jesus on Friday, October 8,2010 at the Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 14, 2010 at North St. United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30- 8:00 PM Wednesday at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Marshall.
Margaret was born June 26, 1929 in Napton, Mo., the daughter of Ollie Banty and Lula Ella Tindall. She was a member of the North St. United Methodist Church for many years. She was chairperson of the History Committee, on the Pastor Parish Relation Committee, and a Lay Delegate to Annual Conference. She also worked with the youth.
She was retired from the International Shoe Company and Con-Agra.
“Aunt Margaret” as she was known leaves to cherish her memory, Nieces Geraldyne Williams, Ena Banty, Paula Banty, Nephews, Thomas R. Bynum, Sherman R. Bynum, Randii Bynumand Leonard Crump, great nieces and nephews of Marshall, Mo., Candice Banty, Keith Banty, Angel Banty, Karl Banty, and Jade Banty, other nieces and nephews who are too numerous to mention. Two very special great nephews Khody and Kalvin Stewart, one sister-in-law Eva Banty of Marshall, Mo., and many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother William Banty, her sisters Gertrude Williams, Lula Banty and Helen Monroe.

Kenneth Leroy Johnson, 43, of Columbia, slept into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Boone Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Second Baptist Church.
Kenneth was born December 2, 1966 in Columbia, Mo. the son of Lawrence Thomas and Nancy Johnson Stephenson, who preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter Arionna Johnson, three brothers Lawrence Johnson, Randy Jennings and John Jennings all of Columbia, one sister-in-law Vonya Johnson and a special friend Ella Allen, his stepfather Kenny Stevenson, one special niece Shaunta Johnson and 3 special nephews Marquelle, Terrell and Lee’onte Johnson. He also has several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Friendship Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11-12 Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Linda Sue Smith Taylor was born June 1, 1952 the daughter of James and Edna Mitchell Smith in Columbia, Mo.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Dorsey Taylor Sr., her son Dorsey Taylor Jr. of Bellevue, NE., her parents James Mitchell of Columbia and Edna Smith of Mexico, Mo., sis brothers Robert Mitchell of Phoenix, AZ., James Smith Jr., Steve Smith, Dennis Smith, Gary Smith and Dale Smith all of Columbia, three sisters Brenda Smith and Glenda Watson both of Columbia and Mary Timmerman of Mexico, Mo., and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister.
