mcdonaldCecil Maurice McDonald Jr., 66, of Columbia slept into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, February 27, 2011 in Columbia. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Cecil was born June 29, 1944 in Columbia the son of Cecil And Edith Cross McDonald Sr. He was a veteran of the US Armed forces.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved companion Rosetta ” Rose” Lee of Columbia, three sons Anthony Prince of Milwaukee, WI., Victor Sanders and Travis Graves both of Columbia, four daughters Alicia Prince of Milwaukee, WI., Tori Jackson of California, Dorthea ” Paige” McDonald and Ragan McDonald both of Columbia, two brothers George Myers of Kansas City, MO., and Vernon Hockaday of Slater, Mo., two sisters Ruby Penn of Kansas City, Mo., and Marva Jo Craig of Slater, Mo., 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents Ben and Bessie Cross, one son Cecil McDonald III, and one sister Earline McDonald.

Joyce G. Walton Mason

Walton Mason, 68, of Lexington, transitioned into eternity on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Lafayette Regional Health Center.  Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Second Baptist Church in Lexington. Burial will be in Lexington Memory Garden Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 12-1:30 Saturday at the church.

The sunrise of Joyce Gertrude Walton Mason was on Wednesday September 30, 1942.  She was born in Lexington, Missouri the fourth child of Douglas T. Walton and Mable M. Olden-Walton. 

 “Sue” as she was affectionately called, accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at a young age, and was baptized at the Second Baptist Church in Lexington under the pastorate of the late Rev. H.C. Haynes, where she attended faithfully until her home going.

On Friday July 19, 1963 she married Emanuel A. Mason, Jr. in Lexington. To this union was born two sons, Emanuel A. Mason, III and Mandez J. Mason.

Joyce attended Douglas School in Lexington from 1948 to 1956, and graduated from Lexington High School in 1961.  Upon her graduation she attended Business College in Kansas City, Missouri earning a certificate as a Legal Secretary.  She was employed with the Law Firm of Holiday, Kilmer, and Hughes in Kansas City as a Legal Secretary.  Upon leaving the law firm, she began a career with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, under the chairmanship of notables, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr., Congresswoman Eleanor Norton Holmes, and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, retiring in 1989 after 27 years as an Investigator.   After retiring, she worked at the Missouri Department of Motor Vehicle in Lexington, from 1990 until her retirement in 2009.

She loved to cook and travel. She enjoyed traveling extensively with her family and church family.  

Joyce was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Lexington, where she was a part of the Choir and WMU.  She also served in various leadership capacities; at the time of her passing as Chair of the Board of Trustees.  She was also a member of the Central District Missionary Baptist Association of Missouri, a participant of the Music Auxiliary and a Life Member of the WMU. She served as the Executive Secretary of the Parent Body from 1997 to 2006 under the leadership of then Moderator Rev. Everett W. Hannon, Jr. At the time of her passing she was Financial Secretary for the Congress of Christian Education, and on the Board of Trustees.

She was also a member of social organizations, The Socialites and The Progressive Matrons.

 The sunset of Joyce Gertrude “Sue” Walton Mason came on Sunday February 27, 2011 at the Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 47 years Emanuel, of the home; two sons, Emanuel A. Mason ”Mase”, III, Lexington and Mandez J. Mason (Kristina), Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Ciara R. Mason, Lexington; Lauren D. Dye and Carter E. Mason, Warrensburg, MO; one sister, Mable H. Walton, Lexington; two brothers, Earl R. Walton and Charles T. Walton, Lexington; mother-in-law, Audrey F. Smith, Lexington; sisters-in-law, Annette Williams and Penny Bledsoe, Kansas City and Tennie Hamilton (Alfred), Allen, TX; a special niece Carol S. Hannon; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a dear friend, Celeste Johnson.

Her parents, brother Johnnie “Joe”, and three sisters, Rosemary, Maxine and Selena preceded her in death.

 In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Second Baptist Church or Village Hospice.

Eddie Joe Lewis Guess

Eddie Joe Lewis Guess, 67, of Fulton,  , passed from life to eternal on Sunday, February 13, 2011 in Davenport, IA.. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Roderick Williams and Bishop Lorenzo Lawson officiating.

He was preceded in death by his mother and three grandsons Teddurrian and Travaris Robinson and Sam D. Brown, and his stepfather George Fred Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his father John T. Galbreath of Des Moines, IA, two daughters Cherry Robinson and Rose Guess both of St. Louis, Mo., six brothers Archie L. Hatton and George L. Hatton both of Columbia, Kerry D. Hatton of Stafford, VA., John T. Galbreath Jr. of Houston, TX., Michael D. GAlbreath of Des Moines, IA. and Mark A. Galbreath of Houston, TX., six sisters Patricia A. Mabonroe of Centralia, Mo., Beverly J. Williams and Yinetta E. Hatton both of St. Louis, Mo., Helen E. Mormon of Columbia, MO., and Rose M. Galbreath of Houston, TX., and Gabriel Galbreath of Des Moines, IA., and two grandchildren Juwan Smith and Jabon Brown.

Ollie Carter

Ollie Carter, 80, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Sedalia died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Kansas City Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Ward’s Memorial Baptist Church in Sedalia. Visitation will be from 8:30-10 am Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Ollie Carter was born APril 2, 1930 in Kansas City, Mo. the daughter of Clarence and Maggie Montgomery Gaines. She was a long time member of Wards Memorial Baptist Church until moving her membership to Friendship Baptist Church in Kansas City,Mo. She was employed with the Sedalia School District for many years.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Debra Carter of Raytown, Mo., two sons Allen Carter and Tyrone Carter both of Sedalia, one sister Anna Momon of Raytown, Mo., 6 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Benny Carter, one daughter, four brothers, and one great-grandson.

Jewel Elbert

scan0002Jewel Elbert, 88, of Boonville, formerly of Sedalia, slept into the arms of Jesus on Monday, February 21, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 26 2011 at Burns Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Sedalia  with Elder Calvin W. Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Sedalia.  Visitation will be from from 11-1 pm Saturday at the church.

Jewel was born May 29, 1922 in Pettis County Missouri the daughter of Frank and Mary Duvall Robinson. She was a member of the Burns Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mother Board, she also attended St. Matthew AME Church in Boonville and Pleasant Hill Baptist in Clark’s Fork, Mo.  She married Warsh Elbert Sr. on April 25, 1992 and he survives of the home.

Survivors include her husband Warsh Elbert Sr. of Boonville,  one brother Harold Williams Sr. of Sedalia, three step-sons Warsh Elbert Jr. of Columbia, Tommy Elbert of Chicago, IL., and Walter Overton of Kansas City, Mo., four step-daughters Margaret of Richmond, VA., Georgia M. Chester of Boonville, Arlene Alexander of Dallas, TX., and Nettie White of Boonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son Walter Murphy.

Sherry Lynn Heistand

HeistandSherry Lynn Heistand, 35, of Sedalia, died Monday at her home. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Friday, February 11, 2011 at Alexander-May Funeral Home.

 Sherry was born January 15, 1976 in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Rick Rogers and Patricia Singletary. She was a loving mother and a homemaker.

 Survivors include her son David Cotter and her daughter Arial Cotter both of Sedalia, her parents Rick Rogers of Pleasant Hope, Mo., and Patricia Singletary of Jacksonville, FL., five brothers Gary Heistand of Sedalia, Sidney Heistand of Joplin, Mo., Nathan Rogers and Willie Rogers both of Pleasant Hope, Mo. and Jesse Heistand of Kansas City, Mo 

 

 

Ruth Davis

Ruth Davis, 95, of Columbia, formerly Fayette, slept into the arms of Jesus at Columbia Manor on Sunday February 6, 2011 . Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 12, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fayette. Visitation will be from 12-2 pm Saturday at the church.

Ruth I. Davis was born December 1, 1915 in Fayette, Mo. to Robert Rowden Sr. and Corrine Tolson Rowden.

 Ruth was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and lived most of her life in Fayette as a domestic worker for several families She was united in marriage in 1975 to George L. Davis and moved to Columbia, Mo. shere she spent the rest of her life.

 She leaves to cherish her memory one sister-in-law Mrs. Annie Rowden of Kansas City, Mo., eleven nieces Nancy Jones(Donald) and Gussie Bush of Fayette, RUth Ann Jones of Columbia, Betty Lou JOnes of St. Joesph, Mo., Linda Chase Jacqueline Washington, Margaret Hamlett, Cynthia Watts, Kim Hess, Valerie Rowden and Stephanie Rowden all of Kansas City, Mo.,  four nephews JOhnny Rowden of Jefferson City, Mo., William H. Jones of Plattsburg, Mo., Kenneth Rowden and David Rowden both of Kansas City, Mo., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and nine brothers and sisters, and was the last member of her family to pass away.

Bobby Lee Williams Sr.

Williams, BobbyBobby Lee  Williams Sr., 72, of Marshall entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at his home. Funeral  services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, February 14, 2011 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Visitation will be from 9-10:00 am Monday at the church.

Bobby Lee Williams Sr. was born June 21, 1938 the son of Howard and Jessie D. Williams in Blackwater, Mo. He was the third son in his family. He was surrounded by the love of his brothers Howard, Gilbert and Lavon, who have all preceded him in death.

Bobby attended C.C. Hubbard HIgh School in Sedalia and joined the US Navy in 1955. In 1963 he moved his family to Marshall, Mo. where he was a loyal employee at the Marshall Municipal Utilities for 15 years.

Bobby was also preceded in death by his second wife Helen Williams, one step-son Martin Thornton and a grandson J’Randall Williams.

Those left to cherish his memory are his first wife Covella Williams two sons Bobby L. Williams Jr. and Milton Thornton both of Denver, CO., one daughter Denise Williams of Dallas, Tx., four grandchildren Junnie Williams odf North Charleston, SC., Eve Thornton of Seattle, WA., Chauncel Smith and Chakesha Smith both of Dallas, TX., his sister-in-laws Shirley Williams of Columbia, MO., and Kolene Williams and Janis Williams both of Kansas City, Mo., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Freelon PicWayne Ronail Freelon, 60, of Columbia slept into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at University of Missouri Hospital. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 pm at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.

Wayne Freelon was born July 1, 1950 in Columbia the son of Charles and Nadine Williams Freelon. He was a member of Faithwalk Ministries in Paris, Mo. where he was a member of the Media Ministry. He married Shirley Cross in 1968 and she survives of the home.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Shirley Freelon of the home, one son Wayne Freelon Jr. of Columbia, two daughters Shauntel Garr and Nacole Freelon both of Columbia,one brother Jarrell and one sister Charlynn Lewis both of Atlants, GA.,  and five grandchildren Brittaneisha Freelon, Jonathan Garr, Da’Shanae and D’Marcus Govan and Kayla Freelon. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jerry Freelon.
