Eddie Mae Wright

Eddie Mae Wright, 70, of Columbia, answered the call of Jesus on Friday, May 27, 2011 at Parkside Manor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was born January 25, 1941 to Eular Brooks and Solomon Nelson in Charleston, MO.  Eddie attended school in Cairo, IL.  In her adulthood, Eddie moved to Columbia, MO and worked in countless nursing homes and hospitals.

 She leaves behind three sisters: Ruby Scott (Herschel) of Mexico, MO, Catherine Davis (Willie) of Macon, GA, and Mary Gillespie (Omar) of Columbia, MO. Three brothers: Louis Nelson (Janie) of Columbia, MO, Solomon Nelson (Margaret) of Michigan City, IN, and John Nelson (Freddie) of Cape Girardeau, MO. One daughter: Rochelle Nelson of Marietta, GA. Grandchildren: Florence Sanders of Decatur, GA, Latoyia Chapman of Marietta, GA, Ranika Jenkins (Fernando) of Columbia, MO, Tarsha Nelson of Ohio, Charisse Patterson of Clarkston, TN, Orlando Hayes of Columbia, MO, Edward Nelson of Columbia, MO, Ryan Washington of Columbia, MO, Kenya Hardiman of Columbia, MO, and, Malcolm Washington of Columbia, MO.  Eddie Mae Wright has 25 lovely Great Grandchildren and 1 adorable Great Great Grandson.

 She was preceded in death by her mother and father, two sisters, three brothers, and two sons.

 Eddie Mae Wright was a member of United Community Church and Wright Temple of Columbia, Mo.  She was a woman of courage and power, with a heart as big as the sea is wide.  If you were in need of a good hot meal, Ms. Eddie’s house was the place to be, and she didnt take no for an answer.  She enjoyed going out to eat and smoking her cigarettes while drinking coffee.  Making home-made quilts was her passion.  Not to mention being the best babysitter of all times.  It was never a problem for her to keep your kids, even if that meant her cutting the feet out of tight pajamas, no job was too big or small.  For all of you who were blessed with her presence knew that she was a no-nonsense woman, but always knew how to make you feel that you can do anything, and the jokes never stopped, especially the moth ball joke!

Nadine Huston

Nadine Huston, 93, of Marshall, passed into eternity on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Marsaline Manor in Marshall.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Marshall. Burial in Nelson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11-1 Saturday at the church.

Nadine Rebecca Martin  Huston was born in Saline County on April 18, 1918 the daughter of Ollie Martin and May Stevens. Nadine was educated in the Nelson Dunbar School and Nelson High School in Nelson, Mo.

On July 24, 1946 she was unted in marriage to James L. Huston in Kansas City, Ks. to this union four sons were born.

She was employed at the Marshall Habilitation Center and the Nelson High School as a cook.

Nadine was baptised by Rev. J.Y. Jackson at Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church in Nelson, Mo. She later united with the Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Marshall, Mo.

SHE IS SURVIVED BY A DEVOTED FAMILY CONSISTING OF TWO SONS: MR OLLIE J. HUSTON AND MR. ROBERT L. HUSTON OF MARSHALL; THREE DAUGHTER-IN-LAWS SALLY HUSTON, AND VIRGINIA HUSTON OF MARSHALL AND KATHY HUSTON OF KANSAS CITY; NINE GRAND CHILDREN: SUE MARCHBANKS OF KANSAS CITY, JOI PHILLIPS & HUSBAND LARRY OF BLUE SPRINGS, NICOLE HUSTON OF KANSAS CITY, KATIE LEE & HUSBAND COZAX OF FT. SMITH, ARKANSAS, DAWN HUSTON OF MARSHALL, CLINT HUSTON & WIFE TINA OF GRAIN VALLEY, LATOYA HUSTON OF WARRENSBURG, LEANN THOMPSON & HUSBAND SETH OF MARSHALL, STORMY PERRY & HUSBAND JOHNNIE OF BOONEVILLE; 14 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; TWO NEPHEWS: DENNIS MOON OF MARSHALL AND PHILLIP STRAW OF GREAT BEND, KANSAS AND ONE NIECE: BOBBIE GRIMES OF MARSHALL.

Lucille G. Finley

Lucille G. Finley,87, of Sedalia, slept into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Fairview Nursing Home.  Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 26 , 2011 at 11:00 am at Crown Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Lucille G. Finley was born February 15, 1924 the oldest child of Wilbur and Bernice Davis. Lucille graduated from C.C. Hubbard School. On August 22, 1947 she married James Paul Finley who passed away in 1985. To that union they were blessed with three children and a niece whom they raised as a daughter.

Lucille was a homemaker and a loving wife , mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and ceramics.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Salli Payne, a brother Wilbur “Jack” Davis, both of Kansas City, Mo., and a great-grandson Christopher P. Finley Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons George D. Finley(Kay Beth) of Sedalia,  James M. Finley (Kathy) of Cincinnati, OH., a daughter Brigitte G. Humphrey of Sedalia, Mo. and a niece Juanita Dalene Davis of Ft. Worth, Tx., and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, and an aunt, Loretta Emerson of Sedalia, Mo., a brother in law Jimmy Payne of Kansas City, Mo. and a sister in law Bessie Davis of Kansas City, Mo.

Lucille will be sadly and deeply missed by all.

Virgil Williams, 58, of Fayette, Mo., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Cooper County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home inFayette. Visitation will be from 12-1 Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Mo.

Virgil Williams was born February 9, 1953 in Fayette, Mo. the son of Walter Lee Williams and Dorothy Mae Broadus Williams.

Virgil was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

He leaves to cherish his memory one son Tyrone WIlliams of Des Moines, IA., four sisters Elnora Ashby of Des Moines, IA., Mary E Michaels of Raleigh, NC.,  Freda McKee of Columbia, Mo., and Charlene Emery of Kansas City, Mo., three brothers Walter Lee Williams Jr. of Dallas, TX., Robert E. Williams of Marshall, Mo., and Rev. John A. Williams of Columbia, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Lorean E. Baker

Lorean E. Baker, 92, of Jefferson City, Mo.  formerly of Tipton, Mo. answered the call of Jesus on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Prairie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Tipton. Burial will be in the Versailles City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday at the Prairie Grove Baptist Church.

Lorean E. Baker was born February 12, 1919 in Georgetown, Mo., the daughter of the late Henry and Carrie Molden. She was united in marriage on October 10, 1940 to Burnam W. Baker who preceded her in death on May 15, 1976. Mr. and Mrs. Baker had lived in Casper, WY. for twenty years before retiring to Tipton, MO. She was a member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church where Rev. Walter Foster was her pastor.

She leaves to cherish her memory four children Barbara Brigance and Patricia Baker both of Jefferson City, Mo., Burnam Baker Jr. of Denver, CO., and Wendell Baker and his wife Beverly of Huntsville, AL.,one sister Florence Carter of Bakersfield, CA.,  8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild  and a host of nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Lorean will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends.

William “Billy” Saunders

William “Billy” Saunders, 39 of Marshall passed into eternity on Monday, May 9, 2011 in Sedalia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Grant Chapel AME Church in Moberly. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Moberly. Visitation will be from 6:30-7:30 Friday, May 13, 2011 at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Marshall and from 12-2 pm Saturday at the church.

William “Billy Saunders was born February 6, 1972 in Marsaline, Mo. the son of Joyce E. Tolson Saunders of Huntsville, Mo.,  and Harry D. Saunders of Bruswick, Mo. He moved to Marshall at the age of four with his mother where he was raised by his mother and step-father. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing with his family and friends. He enjoyed running track and playing football while he attended Marshall Public Schools. Billy moved to Sedalia, Mo. nad worked at Tysons for several years. His most recent joy was the birth of his new granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Joyce Saunders and his stepfather Robert WIlliams both of Marshall, Mo. one son Mathew Saunders of Marshall, MO., and one daughter Kendra Saunders of Independence Mo., one granddaughter Aa”nyah Saunders of Marshall, Mo., three sisters Carnia Abernathy of Marshall, and MArsha Saunders, Laura Reding, two brothers Curt and Tyrell Saunders all of Dubuque, IA., and a special friend Nicole Shy and a host of uncles, aunts nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Warsh Albert Elbert Sr.

Warsh Albert Elbert Sr., 97 of Boonville departed this life on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in New Franklin. Warsh Elbert was born February 6, 1914 in Prairie Home, Mo. the son of Prince Albert Elbert and Virgil Campbell Elbert.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Morgan St. Baptist Church, burial in Boonville, Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-1 Saturday at the church.

He was united in marriage to Eola Lucille Coleman and she preceded him in death. He later married Jewell Quantrell and she preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Clark’s Fork, Mo. and his favorite song was I’ll Fly Away.

During his lifetime he was a truck driver, where he owned and operated his own business. He later retired from Holsum Bakery.

His favorite past times included reading the bible, especially the book of Job, attending church, fishing, hunting, woodworking and watching westerns on television. Mr. Elbert met no strangers and was loved by so many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, one sister, and five children. He leaves to cherish his memory his children Georgia Mae Elbert Chester, and Nettie White both of Boonville, Mo., Warsh Elbert Jr. of Columbia, Mo., Thomas Elbert of Chicago, Il., Arlene Alexander of Dallas, Tx., Walter Overton of Kansas City, Mo., and Margaret Brown of RIchmond, Va., and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Elbert will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Carrie Mae Thomas, 79, of Columbia passed into eternity on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Luke United Methodist Church,  Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.

Carrie Thomas was born February 26, 1932 in Aance, MS., the daughter of Hester Bell Blackmon.  She was a member of All Peoples Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Bobbie Thomas of Independence, Mo., Carolyn Galler of Jackson, TN., and Ursuline Lewis of Columbia, seven sons Willie Allen of Oak Park, IL., J.C. Allen of Dallas, TX., Dean Thomas of Quincy, IL., Anthony Thomasof Chicago, IL., Rufus Thomas, Randy Thomas, and Sam Thomas all of Columbia, Mo., one brother Joe Eddie Bailey of Tutwiler, MS., 20 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
