scan0008 Flordia Cox died Friday, November 13, 2009.  Funeral services will be  held at 2:00pm Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Columbia, 301 Smiley Lane.  Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 pm Friday at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home. 2207 Holly Ave.

            Flordia Mae Cox was born December 29, 1939 in Caruthersville, MO to Florida and Lucille Jenkins.   Flordia grew up in Hayti, MO and later moved to Chicago, IL in 1958, where she started her family. Flordia worked at Barr and Staff Company in Niles, IL, for forty years. She was united in marriage in Chicago to William Henry Cox in 1969.  Flordia enjoyed fishing and shopping.  She was well known for her cooking and warm hospitality.

          Her only son, Victor, preceded her in death in January of 1974; her husband, William Henry Cox died on December 26, 1981; two grandchildren on August 22, 1999, and one son-in-law, Floyd Mockabee, on May 28, 2001, and one brother Garvin Jenkins who died as an infant.

          Her memories will be cherished by her loving and devoted children: Deborah Hill (Joseph) of Chicago, IL, Gwendolyn Jennings (Ronald) of Kennett, MO, Terra Sydnor (David) of Chicago, IL, Sandra Mockabee of Columbia, MO, and Liticia Cox of Kennett, MO; 14 grandchildren: Vance Jr., T’nia (Dennis), Fatimah, Rahkeeb, David Jr. (Tyiesha), Rahneish, April, Brittney, Marcus, Langston, Derrick, Latoya, Lamar; 4 great grandchildren: Zion, Azarih, Ethan and Nasir; one sister, Mamie Jenkins of Hayti, MO; three brothers: LeeAry Williams of Hayti, MO, Buddy Moore (Sandra) of Elizabethtown, KY, and TJ of St. Louis, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Flordia Mae is my aunt & I will miss her dearly. She will always have a special place in my heart that holds her loving memories. Rest on auntie, you are free & don’t have to suffer any more.     To my family, my aunt…will be missed and your smile left a print on my heart your kind words will never leave my mind. Am blessed for the time we shared …..and….yes,…i just want something to chew on….everytime she saw me if it wasnt the first thing she said to me it was the second. my favorite line as a child..love you …

    To my family u will be missed auntie have nothing but great memories. I love you now and always family is very important this shouldnt be a sad occasion but a happy one.. because her suffering is gone and she brought the good out in any sitation.. we have another angel watching us everyday.

    Gwen, I didn’t know about this until today when I overheard those at work talking about it. Please accept my deepest condolences. She is with the Lord looking down upon you and your family. Cherish all the memories that you have and remember one day you shall meet again. God received a beautiful angel on the day she left you. Love you girl.

    Sandra and Family, I am sorry to hear about your loss. I know Mrs Cox has lived a long, full life and was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. I am glad she was able to come visit again. You and your family will be in the prayers of the staff at the Kennett Dialysis Unit (Fresenius Medical). We will all miss her. God Bless you and your family members, may he help you through this time of grief. I know she is happy and well now. God Bless.

    I cant believe it its been about 16 years since the last time I saw Ms. Cox in which she was my GRANDMA!!!!!!! She took me and my family in like we where her own. I think I spent more nights in her home then mine. I will truly miss her so much and I send out my condeloscenes and sympathy to the Famly in which them all do know me my brother Jake my Deceased Mother Lois and my father James miss you and love you.
