Juanita Marie Chess

Juanita Marie Chess of Kansas City, formerly of Marshall died Sunday at Truman Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday at North St. United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Sunday at the church.
Juanita was born April 30, 1964 in Marshall the daughter of Everett and Julia Parker Chess. She was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church in Kansas City.
Survivors include her parents of Marshall, 3 sons Cedric Chess, James Barry Jr., and Tyrone Chess, 3 daughters Shante’ Barry, LaShuna Barry and Tamika Chess, 5 sisters Denise Pollard, Veronica Boothe, Wilma Chess, Cynthia Johnson and Natalie McKee, 2 brothers Everett Chess and Stanford Jackson and 1 grandson .

My heart and prayers go out to you all. Juanita and I graduated together (M.H.S Class of 1983). She was one of Marshall High Track Stars.

While seated at my desk at Marshall High School, I held Juanita’s baby boy. She was so proud of him and I felt privileged.
Juanita was a talented poet and such a special friend and student. My condolences to the family.
